Greece stocks higher at close of trade; Athens General Composite up 1.33%

Investing.com – Greece stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Construction and Travel sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Athens, the Athens General Composite gained 1.33% to hit a new 5-year high.

The best performers of the session on the Athens General Composite were Piraeus Bank SA (AT:BOPr), which rose 3.23% or 0.13 points to trade at 4.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Alpha Bank SA (AT:ACBr) added 3.15% or 0.05 points to end at 1.70 and National Bank of Greece SA (AT:NBGr) was up 3.12% or 0.24 points to 8.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Dimand Societe Anonyme for Real Estate Constructions (AT:DIMANDr), which fell 2.59% or 0.22 points to trade at 8.28 at the close. Premia AE (AT:PREMr) declined 2.50% or 0.03 points to end at 1.25 and Elinoil Hellenic Petroleum Company SA (AT:ELIr) was down 2.13% or 0.05 points to 2.30.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Athens Stock Exchange by 95 to 37 and 16 ended unchanged.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.54% or 14.21 to $2,661.61 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.90% or 0.66 to hit $74.22 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.92% or 0.70 to trade at $77.00 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 1.04, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.01% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 108.29.
